The Italian Alps comprise of a number of great ski resorts located in the North East of Italy. Skiing is a popular pastime of the local Italians as well as nearby Europeans. One of the most popular, fashionable and expensive ski resorts in the Italian Alps is the Cortina d'Ampezzo. Other fun and famous ski resorts can be found at Courmayeur, an Italian town located at the foot of Mont Blanc. Courmayeur is one of Europes most sought out ski destinations because of the beautiful mountain scenery and the healthy mountain air. Apart from the great skiing adventures, Courmayeur also includes the Giardino Botanico Alpino Saussurea, which is known as Europe's highest botanical garden.

~Duncan~Lampedusa, Italy is a tiny island, yet the largest of the Pelagie Islands chain. It is an idyllic, sandy streak of land about 4 miles long, set in a turquoise sea. It is located about 70 miles north of Tunisia and 120 miles south of Sicily, Italy. Since it is geographically closer to Tunisia, you might think it is a part of that country, but it is officially a part of Italy.
Lampedusa is known as an Italy tourism destination, as well as for it's great sponge fishing and more recently, for processing waves of illegal immigrants from Tunisia. Only about 5,000 people actually live on the island, yet over 4.000 immigrants have arrived there in the last week alone, swelling the population. They are fleeing after the popular uprising in Tunisia put in place an interim government that is now having trouble enforcing coastal patrols. Italy has promised aid and patrol boats to Tunisia in an effort to stem the tide.
